What happens if I lose?

You repay nothing to Hello Justice. The fees paid to your lawyer are not claimed back from you, and the commission is only due in the event of success. The analysis fee, due whatever the opinion, is not refunded. The agreement states, before you sign, what remains payable by you.

How much do you take from the sums recovered?

14 to 30% incl. VAT, depending on the type of case. The rate is written into the agreement before any commitment and does not change during the proceedings. It only applies in the event of success.

Is litigation funding legal in France?

Yes. The Versailles Court of Appeal accepted it on 1 June 2006 (Foris AG v Veolia Propreté). Article 16 of the law of 30 April 2025 gave it its first statutory recognition, and decree no. 2025-1191 of 10 December 2025 regulates the funding of group actions. The National Bar Council in 2015, then the Paris Bar in 2017, accepted the practice.

How long do proceedings take?

Usually two to four years, sometimes longer, appeals included. A settlement can come earlier.

Why at least €100,000 at stake?

Asserting your rights in court costs from €30,000 to more than €300,000 in fees and costs, over two to four years of proceedings, sometimes longer. Funding only makes sense if the sums at stake clearly exceed that cost. Below that level, the eligibility test points you to other routes, such as legal expenses insurance or legal aid.

Does my information stay confidential?

Yes. Filing is confidential and nothing is disclosed to the other side. Hello Justice only reads the documents the analysis needs.

Is Hello Justice a law firm?

No. Hello Justice funds proceedings, without giving legal advice or representing anyone in court. Your lawyer conducts the case.

How funding a dispute works.

Hello Justice, a litigation funder founded in Lyon in 2024, pays your lawyer’s fees during the proceedings. Its commission is taken from the sums recovered, only in the event of success.

Step 1
Free
You test your eligibility.
You answer six questions about your dispute and leave your contact details, then the result appears on screen. It is a first indication: the funding decision comes after the analysis of the case.
Step 2
Free
You file your case.
You describe the dispute and attach the key documents: the contract, the exchanges with the other side, the evidence of your loss. A specialised partner lawyer analyses whether the case is eligible.
Step 3
Flat fee
Hello Justice analyses the case.
Upon a funding request, Hello Justice studies the case from a financial point of view. You receive a written report and a funding opinion, favourable or unfavourable. An unfavourable opinion always states its reasons.
Step 4
Agreement
The agreement is signed.
If the opinion is favourable, you sign a fee agreement with your lawyer and Hello Justice. Your lawyer then conducts the proceedings, and you follow each step from your online space.
Step 5
On success
The dispute is resolved.
In the event of success, by judgment or settlement, the other side pays the sums due into your lawyer’s CARPA account. The bar supervises this client‑money account, and the sums are then shared out under the agreement.

The characteristics of the dispute
What the parties disagree about, who the other side is, and the amount at stake, as a rule at least €100,000.
Limitation
The time limit for going to court. A time‑barred claim can no longer be brought.
Completeness of the documents
The contract, the exchanges with the other side and the evidence of the loss must be in the file.
Reasonable chances of success
The specialised partner lawyer assesses them from the applicable law and the documents.

The fee agreement.

A single document, signed by you, your lawyer and Hello Justice, governs the whole relationship. The terms of your case are those of the signed agreement.

Your lawyer’s fees: Hello Justice pays them, on the schedule the agreement sets.
The commission: Its rate, 14 to 30% incl. VAT of the sums recovered depending on the type of case, is set before signing and does not change afterwards.
Non‑recourse: The funding is not a loan: if the case is lost, you repay nothing to Hello Justice.
The choice of lawyer: You keep your own lawyer. A client without a lawyer is referred to a specialised partner lawyer. The lawyer alone conducts the proceedings.
A settlement: Accepting or refusing an offer from the other side is your decision, with your lawyer’s advice.
Legal privilege: No information covered by legal privilege is passed to Hello Justice without your written consent.
